Lobster & Asparagus Festival in North Yorkshire (England)
For the fortnight between Monday 19th May to Sunday 1st June 2008, the General Tarleton Inn at Ferrensby in North Yorkshire hosts a Lobster and Asparagus Festival celebrating local asparagus from nearby Helperby and delicious English shellfish on all the menus created by the Inn’s award-winning owner and chef, John Topham.
The General Tarleton Inn enjoys a well-deserved reputation for good food that is sourced as far as possible from within a 30 mile radius of the locality.
Game comes from shoots at Ripley and Swinton, eggs arrive within 24 hours of being laid from 3 miles away in Boroughbridge, summer soft fruit is picked two fields away, rapeseed oil from 7 miles up the road.
Working with local suppliers means daily deliveries, sometimes on foot, giving the opportunity to make the most of the fresh ingredients they know will be arriving.
This sourcing practice recently won the Inn the Deliciouslyorkshire Award for “Best Use of Regional Produce on a Menu”.
Latest accolades for the General Tarleton Inn:
* “Yorkshire Pub of the Year 2007″ in The Yorkshire Tourist Board’s White Rose Awards for Tourism;
* Listed by Eat Out Magazine as 6th out of 100 of the country’s pubs in their Best of the Best Awards 2008;
* Shortlisted to the national finals of the Pub Food Awards “Seafood Pub of the Year”;
* Winner of Deliciouslyorkshire “Best Use of Regional Produce on a Menu” Award.
