Chef Profile: Anthony Flinn
Anthony Flinn has been hailed a genius by some of the UK’s most respected critics and applauded by the national media for his creativity and unusual style of molecular gastronomy that creates outstanding dishes.
Anthony graduated from Huddersfield Technical College and was the first – and so far only — Englishman on the payroll at the stellar El Bulli in Spain.
At just 28 he has already made a much bigger impact on the British restaurant industry than his peers Marco Pierre White and Gordon Ramsay did in their early careers, and with his recent appearance on this year’s BBC Great British Menu he has only just begun. Despite this rising stardom Anthony remains grounded to his role as a working chef.
Anthony says:
My own obsession with maintaining a ‘hands on’ presence is what differentiates us and we are committed only to deliver excellence in all that we do.
Over the last four years we have built up a successful and highly respected operation in Leeds under the Anthony’s brand.
Anthony’s Restaurant on Boar Lane, Anthony’s at Flannels and Anthony’s Patisserie in the Victoria Quarter have all been borne out of our commitment to bring a passion for modern British food to Leeds and push as many culinary boundaries as possible, creating new and exciting textures and flavours with the highest quality in local produce.
Opened in 2004, Anthony’s first restaurant on Boar Lane is a predominantly family run business consisting of father, son, daughter and son’s partner. Wherever possible all real ingredients will be sourced by Anthony’s from local suppliers including the adjacent Leeds Markets with which Anthony has long been associated.
Anthony’s has been critically acclaimed and won many prestigious awards including:
- Observer Food Monthly Restaurant of the Year 2005
- Remy Martin Regional Restaurant of the Year and National Restaurant of the Year 2005. Yorkshire Life Restaurant of the Year 2005
- Metro Magazine Restaurant of the Year 2005
- Yorkshire Post Restaurant of the Year 2005
- Good Food Guide Newcomer of the Year West Yorkshire with a first time entry of 7/10
- Square Meal top forty restaurants outside London
- Olive magazine top 100 in the country

Since Opening in October 2005 Anthony’s at Flannels has received Metro Newcomer of the Year, Yorkshire Evening Post Lunch of the Year, Times top ten best places to eat whilst you shop, top ten Newcomers of the year and best value lunch.
Anthony’s latest culinary venture is The Piazza at the refurbished Leeds Corn Exchange. The new restaurant will offer a much more casual dining experience, but without compromise in quality.
