Scrabster seafood restaurant The Captain’s Galley is fast gathering gastronomic pace with its latest accolade: Best Fish Restaurant in the UK as voted by the Which? Good Food Guide 2009. One of just 10 restaurants highlighted in the Which? Good Food Guide Editor’s Choice Awards, The Captain’s Galley serves sustainable seafood landed less than 100 meters from its front door, and is the only restaurant in Scotland to net the coveted Good Food Guide title.

UK, French and Spanish chefs battled it out at a grueling live cook-off in the Loire Valley, France for the International Mâche Match 2008 on Thursday 6 November. Nick Chapman, House of Commons sous chef came second in the competition, scoring highest overall in the surprise basket round and impressing the international panel of judges.

The British Cheese Awards, the annual celebration of the very best of the British Cheese industry, has announced the winners of this year’s hard fought competition, with quality being recognised across the board, in both artisan and commercial sectors. Of the record breaking 910 cheeses entered into this year’s Awards, the Supreme Champion was Barkham Blue from the Two Hoots creamery based in Barkham, Berkshire.

Culinary legend Michel Roux will be among top chefs sharing recipe tips as the CityLife.co.uk Manchester Food and Drink Festival serves up a feast for food lovers everywhere. Back for its 11th year, the festival is the largest of its kind in the UK and includes scores of events spread across Greater Manchester.

The British Vegetarian Society announced the products and venues shortlisted for its 2008 Awards. The nominations for the awards were voted for through the charity’s website and members’ magazine. The Awards are in their eighth year and promote best practice among caterers, manufacturers and retailers, and highlight the importance of integrity in the vegetarian marketplace.
