Albert Roux, alongside his brother Michel, was recognised for his outstanding contribution to the hospitality industry at the annual Catey Awards earlier this month. The shortlist included Gordon Ramsay, Marco Pierre White and Sir Rocco Forte.

Wychwood Brewery’s BeeWyched honey beer, has been voted ‘Speciality Honey Beer of the Year’ for the second successive year in the World Beer Awards, collated and judged by Beers of the World. In 2008, BeeWyched shared the top award with Fuller’s Honeydew. A delightfully fragrant honey beer, BeeWyched was first brewed in 2007 on a recipe of Chilean Fairtrade honey from the foothills of the Andes, and Malawian Fairtrade sugars, on a bed of English pale ale malts and English Challenger hops.

Good food is an important ingredient in any holiday. The discerning gourmet traveller deciding to try the tastes of Copenhagen, will never be disappointed. Danish cuisine blends European influences with its traditionally excellent dairy produce, organic vegetables and fruits and high quality local ingredients from sustainable farms and the surrounding waters. This year the Danish capital has been awarded no less than 12 stars. This puts the city above Rome, Berlin, Vienna and every other Scandinavian capital when it comes to quality gourmet restaurants.

Thanks mostly to its culinary delights, Italy was the runaway winner of the prize for “Best European Country” in the 2008 Sunday Times Travel Magazine Readers Awards. Second place was given to Greece, and third to France; fourth was Spain, and fifth Switzerland.

Amber Restaurant, the renowned Scottish restaurant within the popular visitor attraction The Scotch Whisky Experience, has received the Gold Award from dining website toptable.co.uk. The award comes after exceptional feedback from diners at the traditional Scottish venue who have booked their meal through the popular website.

Allium in Fairford has been awarded the title of Which? Good Food Guide South West Restaurant of the Year. The Cotswold restaurant will now go on to compete for the national award.
