The Vegetarian Society Awards 2008 - Shortlists Announced

The British Vegetarian Society announced the products and venues shortlisted for its 2008 Awards. The nominations for the awards were voted for through the charity’s website and members’ magazine. The Awards are in their eighth year and promote best practice among caterers, manufacturers and retailers, and highlight the importance of integrity in the vegetarian marketplace.

Indulge the Senses at A Taste of Barbados, 3rd - 11th October

This Autumn, Barbados plays host to one of the most glamorous events in the Annual Calendar, the island’s International Food Festival, ‘A Taste of Barbados’, featuring nine days of the very best in food and drink to indulge the senses. Chef Profile: Martin Burge

Martin Burge was brought up in Bristol and originally trained at Brunel Technical College. Having emerged with distinctions his first job was under Michael Croft at the Royal Crescent Hotel in Bath. When Croft moved to London to run the kitchen at Mirabelle, 21 year old Burge went with him, before moving on to Pied a Terre under Richard Neat.

Richard Philips @ Chapel Down Gourmet Restaurant in Kent

Celebrity TV Chef, Richard Phillips has joined forces with Chapel Down wines in Kent to launch a restaurant with a menu that perfectly fits with the best award winning English wines in the country. Richard who can be seen regularly on ‘Ready Steady Cook’, and ITV’s Daily Cooks, is looking forward to establishing ‘Richard Phillips @ Chapel Down’ as one of the premiere eateries in the South East.

BBC Good Food Show Scotland Returns to Glasgow SECC

Following a highly successful first year in 2007, the BBC Good Food Show Scotland is delighted to be returning to the SECC this autumn between 31 October and 2 November. Celebrity chefs Gordon Ramsay and James Martin will once again top the bill as the show brings together top quality local producers in a showcase of Scotland’s culinary heritage and expertise. Last year nearly 15,000 visitors enjoyed a day at the show and this year even more are expected to come to the SECC looking for advice and inspiration from the country’s top chefs and the chance to buy great quality food from local producers.
