Aged 18, Steven Doherty began as an apprentice at the Savoy. He then moved to Le Gavroche as a Commis Chef and gradually worked his up to the role of Chef de Partie followed by a two year stage to the Alain Chapel’s restaurant in France before returning to become a Sous Chef for Albert Roux’s. Le Gavroche went on to gain three Michelin stars making Steven the first ever British head chef at a three Michelin-starred establishment.

The Good Food Guide 2009 last week announced the top 40 UK restaurants – and there’s a pack of new chefs chasing the tails of the top dogs. Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck is still number one (with a stunning ten out of ten this year), followed by Gordon Ramsay in second place. Chef Marcus Wareing has driven Pétrus up four places, to pip Raymond Blanc’s Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons to third place.

Following a highly successful first year in 2007, the BBC Good Food Show Scotland is delighted to be returning to the SECC this autumn between 31 October and 2 November. Celebrity chefs Gordon Ramsay and James Martin will once again top the bill as the show brings together top quality local producers in a showcase of Scotland’s culinary heritage and expertise. Last year nearly 15,000 visitors enjoyed a day at the show and this year even more are expected to come to the SECC looking for advice and inspiration from the country’s top chefs and the chance to buy great quality food from local producers.

This year’s Hampshire Food Festival has been extended from its original two-week format to run for the whole month of July 2008. The Festival celebrates Hampshire’s finest food and drink, and this year, features 120 different events.
